1. How long does the hair need to be for my first wax if I’ve shaved and after my first wax?
It needs to be at least 2 weeks of growth or longer after you shaved and 3 weeks after your first.
2. What can I do to prepare?
Avoiding caffeine and taking an Ibuprofen 30 minutes before will aid in reducing sensitivity.
3. Do I need to trim my hair if it is too long?
The longer the better, so I can trim it for you.
4. Does it hurt?
There is some discomfort involved, however most women find it quite tolerable. However this is a sensitive area and you are getting this coarse hair removed from the follicle on delicate skin. Also be aware that caffeine beverages can increase the sensitivity of your wax.
5. Does topical Lidocaine work?
It may take the sensibility off; however most are only 4% and will need to be left on for 30 to 45 minutes prior to your waxing session. Just remember hair that has been shaved is coarse. I will do my best to try and make it less painful.
6. How often should I make an appointment?
I recommend booking the first 3 sessions every 3 weeks in the beginning. Even if you think it might be short come in. This will then relieve some of the pain and get it on a good waxing cycle. You will then start to notice the hair becomes thinner and takes longer to grow back. The third time is a charm!
After this point you can schedule out to 4 weeks and sometimes up to 5.
7. How long should I book before and event?
You should book at least 5 to 7 days before an event. All skins react differently to waxing. Therefore plan ahead.
8. Is it OK to shave between wax appointments?
No I don’t advise shaving between sessions. Waxing slows down and reduces hair growth. Hair also grows much thinner thus making it easier to remove and less painful when waxed. Shaving just will defeat the purpose that is gained from waxing and can further irritate follicles which can cause ingrown hair.
9. How long will it last?
If you have been shaving, there may be a transition period. It generally requires 2-3 consistent waxes to achieve optimal results which are: 3-4 weeks of hairless, softer hair, and less hair growing back. If you have not been shaving prior to getting waxed, these results may be obtained more quickly.
10. What kind of wax do you use?
Two types of wax are generally used. Berodin blue hard wax and Satin smooth strip wax. Hard wax should be used in the more sensitive areas. Hard wax does not stick to the skin and if used correctly will result in minimal discomfort. For large areas such as backs, arms, etc. I use strip wax for quick and thorough waxing.
11. I’m on my period. Can I get waxed?
I will not wax you if you are on any cycle of your period. I recommend you to schedule around your cycle.
12. How long does it take?
30 minutes or less.
13. What can I expect afterwards?
The waxed skin might be tender for a couple of days. However sometimes red bumps, swelling, burning and irritation can occur. Please refer to your aftercare instructions to aid if any reactions should occur.
14. What can I do about ingrown hair?
Exfoliating in the shower with a body brush everyday helps to keep the skin free from cellular buildup which can trap hair. I recommend my Image Skin Care brand, specifically the Total Resurfacing Mask. This will help to prevent ingrown hairs, take down inflammation and lighten the dark areas.
15. Is waxing sanitary?
Yes… I never double dip.
16. Are there any topical creams or medications that I should avoid prior to getting waxed?
I recommend that you stop using them a week before you get waxed especially for the face. These can enhance the sensitivity of your skin and cause injury. Prescription Medications and topicals should be avoided before a wax some even longer than 2 weeks depending on your usage. These would be acne, blood thinners and aging medications: Accutane, Retin-A, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Differin, Tazorac and Renova.
Please ask me if you are not sure.
17. Can I tan before or after I get waxed?
You should wait 3-5 days to get waxed after you have tanned or have facial treatments. You should never get waxed if you are sunburned or even if skin is pink. The very top layer of skin could pull off or “lift” which is painful and can result in scabbing.
It is important to wear sunscreen after you get waxed or to avoid the sun as it can cause “brown spots” known as Hyper-pigmentation.
18. Do I need an appointment?
Yes I am by appointment only. I do recommend scheduling in advance to avoid an extended wait. Please be early or on time to avoid losing your appointment. If you’re unable to keep an appointment I appreciate notification by phone call within 24 hours prior if possible.
19. Are there any age restrictions?
All services may be performed on clients under the age of 18 with a parent consent form.
20 .What happens if after waxing I have an irritation or burn?
This does not happen regularly but it is considered that some people are allergic to the product this is more conservative in the hair removal of the face although in any case it is recommended to put honey on the affected part or even better aloe vera since the latter acts as an anti-inflammatory , antibacterial and anti-fungal since it contains an ingredient called glucomannan that stimulates fibroblasts, which are the cells found in connective tissue. Irritation can last between 3 to 9 days depending on how sensitive the skin is, it is recommended not to scratch, do not make-up and let the skin rest while the irritation lasts, neither be exposed to the sun or a tanning bed.
Please take into account that any questions or any reaction or inconvenience with these services notify us 24 hours after your treatment or document us with photos to help you. Thank you for your cooperation.
